If you’re a Nigerian traveler wondering whether there are countries outside Africa you can visit without going through a stressful visa process, the good news is yes, there are.

This guide covers eight of them. All are outside Africa. All are accessible on a Nigerian passport without prior stamps. And all of them, once visited, make your Schengen and UK visas easier to get.

What Makes These Destinations Accessible for Nigerian First-Timers
The destinations on this list share three things: the visa process does not require an existing travel history, the application does not involve a high-scrutiny embassy interview, and the approval rates for Nigerians are reasonable.
The eight destinations fall into three application types.
- Some are self-service e-visas you complete entirely online.
- A few involve an online application with more detailed documentation requirements.
Please note, accessible does not mean zero documentation. You will still need a valid passport, bank statement, return ticket, and accommodation proof for most of these. What you will not need is a passport full of stamps from other countries before they consider your application.
Qatar – A Taste of the Middle East for Nigerians
Qatar is one of the most accessible Middle Eastern destinations on a Nigerian passport, and one of the most underestimated as a standalone trip rather than just a stopover.

Visa Type and How to Apply
The Qatar tourist visa is processed through an accredited Discover Qatar travel agent. Since 2025, direct applications through the Hayya platform are no longer the standard route for Nigerian travelers; the process now goes through authorized agents who submit your package through the official system. Your agent handles the application once your documents and booking are in order.
If you try applying on the Hayya platform, you will only waste your money; reach out to me. My agency (The Avid Travel Co.) is an accredited Discover Qatar Partner, and we will help you secure your visa, hotel booking, and airport transfer.
What You Need and What It Costs
You need a valid passport with at least three months’ validity from your arrival date, a passport photograph, return ticket, and hotel booking through Discover Qatar. The visa fee is QAR 100, but you must book a hotel and airport transfer through Discover Qatar to be granted the visa. The hotel price must not be less than $200 per night.
Processing Time
Typically three to five working days.
Why You Should Visit Qatar
Qatar is a beautiful country. And there are many things to do or see when you visit. The Museum of Islamic Art, the Souq at Souq Waqif, and the Corniche waterfront are all within easy reach of each other. It is clean, safe, and very walkable for a first-time international traveler getting used to navigating a new city alone. There are also free activities and places to visit that, if you are on a budget, you won’t spend so much to have a good time.
Malaysia – An Asian Trip With Food, Cities, and Islands
Malaysia is where many Nigerians get their first Asian stamp, and it earns that reputation. The visa is self-service, the cost is low, and Kuala Lumpur runs on a budget that is good for Nigerian exchange rates.

Visa Type and How to Apply
The Malaysia e-visa is applied for entirely online through the official Malaysian Immigration portal at malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my. No agent required, no embassy visit. You complete the application, upload your documents, pay online, and receive your visa by email.
What You Need and What It Costs
Valid passport with at least six months’ validity, a passport photograph, return ticket, proof of accommodation, and evidence of sufficient funds. The fee is approximately RM 126, around $30. Print the approved e-visa in colour; Malaysian immigration officers check the physical copy on arrival.
Processing Time
Approximately seven working days. Apply well before your travel date and do not book non-refundable flights until the visa is approved. Let me know if you need a flight itinerary
Nigerian-Specific Tip
Nigeria is a yellow fever endemic country, which means Malaysian immigration requires a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate on arrival. Bring your original yellow card. Also worth knowing: Nigerian passport holders can only enter Malaysia by air. Land border crossings are not permitted regardless of whether you hold a valid visa.
Why You Should Visit Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is one of the most genuinely affordable big cities in Asia for Nigerian travelers. The food is outstanding, the transport is cheap, and the Petronas Towers are as impressive in person as they look in every photo you may have seen of them. Penang gives you street food and culture, and Langkawi allows you to explore island and beaches.
Thailand – Beaches, Temples, and Street Food
Thailand is the destination that converts first-timers into repeat travelers. Bangkok alone earns its reputation, and the e-visa process has become genuinely accessible for Nigerians since January 2025.

Visa Type and How to Apply
As of January 2025, Nigerians apply for a Thai tourist e-visa entirely online at thaievisa.go.th. The Thai Embassy in Nigeria no longer accepts paper applications. The full process happens on the portal; no embassy visit, no in-person submission required.
What You Need and What It Costs
A valid passport with at least six months’ validity, a recent passport photograph, return ticket, proof of accommodation, and bank statements showing sufficient funds. The tourist visa costs approximately $40 for a single entry and allows a 60-day stay.
Processing Time
Between five and fifteen working days depending on application volume. Apply at least three weeks before your travel date.
Nigerian-Specific Callout
Yellow fever vaccination is required for Nigerian travelers entering Thailand. Bring your original yellow card. Also worth knowing: before 2025, getting a Thai visa as a Nigerian was genuinely difficult and many travelers gave up on the destination entirely. The e-visa system changed that. If you tried and failed before, it is worth trying again through the new portal.
Also note:
For Nigerians applying for a Thai visa, the Royal Thai Embassy says Nigerian applicants need a Police Clearance and Drug Clearance Certificate from NDLEA, which will be uploaded when applying for your e-visa.
Why You Should Visit Thailand
Thailand is the kind of trip that feels exciting from the first day. In Bangkok, you can visit temples, shop at night markets, try street food, and still spend less than you would in many major tourist cities. Then you can add Phuket, Krabi, or Pattaya if you want beaches, boat tours, and island-hopping.
The Philippines – Underrated and Very Accessible
The Philippines is genuinely one of the best first Asian trips a Nigerian traveler can make, and most Nigerians have no idea the e-visa even exists yet.

Visa Type and How to Apply
Nigeria was added to the Philippine e-visa system in 2025. Applications go through the official portal at evisa.gov.ph. The process is entirely online, no embassy visit required, and no agent needed. If you tried to visit the Philippines before now and found the process too complicated, this is worth revisiting.
What You Need and What It Costs
A valid passport with at least six months’ validity, a recent passport photograph, return flight itinerary, proof of accommodation, and bank statements covering the previous three months. The single-entry e-visa allows a 30-day stay and is valid for 90 days from the date of issue. Check the official portal for current fees as they vary by processing speed.
You will also need your Yellow Fever Card when visiting.
Processing Time
A few working days for standard processing. Apply at least two weeks before travel.
Why You Should Visit The Philippines
English is widely spoken across the Philippines, which makes it one of the most navigable first-time international destinations on this list. The cost of food, transport, and accommodation is low, and the country has over 7,000 islands to explore once you are there.
Indonesia – A Soft Landing Into Southeast Asia
Indonesia delivers everything it promises as a destination. The visa process is the part that catches Nigerian travelers off guard, and it needs a clear explanation before you book anything.

Visa Type and How to Apply
Nigerian passport holders are not eligible for Indonesia’s Visa on Arrival. Nigeria is on Indonesia’s Calling Visa list, which means the standard tourist visa (C1/C2) requires an additional authorization process before it can be approved. You must apply through an authorized immigration agent who handles the submission and coordinates the required approvals on your behalf.
Do not attempt to apply directly through the Indonesian e-visa portal without agent assistance, as Nigerian applications require this extra layer of processing.
What You Need and What It Costs
You’ll need a valid passport with at least six months’ validity, a passport photograph, a three-month bank statement showing a minimum balance of $2,000, a return ticket, and proof of accommodation.
For Nigerians, the Bali calling visa fee is usually around ₦500,000. Your hotel and activities also have to be arranged through licensed Bali-based destination management companies, also called DMCs. These are the local operators allowed to issue the hotel and tour documents needed for the process.
This is not something you can do on your own. We partner with Bali DMCs, so we can help you handle the visa, hotel booking, tours, and full trip planning. You can still tell us the kind of Bali experience you want, whether that’s beaches, temples, waterfalls, adventure, relaxation, or a mix of everything.
Don’t forget to go with your Yellow Fever Card
Processing Time
Allow three to four weeks minimum. This is not a last-minute application.
Why You Should Visit Indonesia
Bali is popular for a reason. It gives you the kind of trip many people picture when they think of Asia: rice terraces in Ubud, beach days in Seminyak, temples by the water, private villas, waterfalls, floating breakfasts, and sunsets that actually live up to the photos.
Singapore – Gardens, Skyline Views, and a Futuristic City
Singapore trips up Nigerian travelers not because the visa is hard to get but because the application route is unusual. Once you understand it, the process is fast, and the stamp pays dividends on every visa application that comes after it.

Visa Type and How to Apply
There are two ways to apply. The most common is through an ICA-authorized travel agent in Nigeria who submits the application electronically on your behalf. The second is through a Singapore-based sponsor, which means a Singapore citizen or permanent resident aged 21 or older who submits the application online through the ICA e-Service system using their own credentials. Choose whichever is most convenient for your situation, but the agent route is the easiest.
What You Need and What It Costs
Valid passport with at least six months’ validity, a passport photograph, Form 14A (the Singapore visa application form), return ticket, proof of accommodation, bank statements, and an employment letter. The government visa fee is SGD 30, approximately $23. Keep in mind that you must book your hotels and tours alongside your visa application through an agent.
Processing Time
Three to five working days once the application is submitted.
Nigerian-Specific Callout
If you have prior UK, US, or Schengen visas, include copies with your application. Singapore immigration views these positively when assessing Nigerian applications. If this is your first international visa, your documentation needs to be thorough to compensate. Either way, the Singapore stamp itself is one of the most useful travel history entries you can have in your passport. It signals credibility to future embassies in a way that very few destinations on this list can match.
Why You Should Visit Singapore
Singapore is a small country, but it gives you a very full city experience. You can walk through the Supertrees at Gardens by the Bay, eat your way through hawker centres, explore Chinatown and Little India, and end the day around the Marina Bay waterfront. It’s clean, organised, and easy to move around.
Hong Kong – The One That Keeps Surprising Nigerians
Many Nigerian travelers have no idea the Hong Kong visa is a fully self-managed online application. No agent, no embassy visit, no local sponsor. You apply yourself, directly through the Hong Kong Immigration Department portal, and wait.

Visa Type and How to Apply
The application is submitted online at the official Hong Kong Immigration Department website. You create an account, complete the application form, upload your documents, and submit. No intermediary is required. This is one of the only destinations on this list where the entire process is in your hands from start to finish.
What You Need and What It Costs
Valid passport with at least six months’ validity and two blank pages, a recent passport photograph (40mm x 50mm, white background), flight itinerary, proof of accommodation, bank statements, and employment verification. From March 2025, Hong Kong updated its visa fees. The total is now approximately HKD 1,200, which covers both the processing fee and the government visa fee, coming to around $155 USD. The visa allows a stay of up to three months.
Don’t forget your Yellow Fever Card for this trip too. Even if they don’t ask, always hold it in case they do.
Processing Time
Four weeks from the date all documents are received. This is the longest processing time on this list, so plan accordingly and apply well before your travel date.
Why You Should Visit Hong Kong
Hong Kong is for travelers who like cities that feel alive from morning till night. You can watch the skyline glow from Victoria Harbour, eat dim sum in a local restaurant, ride the tram through busy streets, take the Peak Tram for city views, and still find markets, temples, and harbour walks in the same trip. It’s fast, layered, and exciting.
Albania – Europe Without the Schengen Stress
Albania is the destination on this list that produces the most genuine surprise. Europe, the Mediterranean, Ottoman architecture, affordable prices, and a visa that does not require an existing Schengen stamp or a high-scrutiny interview. Shocking right?

Visa Type and How to Apply
The Albania e-visa is applied for online through the official Albanian government portal at e-visa.al. The process is entirely self-managed. You register an account, complete the application form, upload your documents, and wait for an initial review before paying the fee. No embassy visit, no agent required.
What You Need and What It Costs
Valid passport with at least six months’ validity, passport photograph, return ticket, proof of accommodation, travel insurance covering the full duration of your stay (this is a mandatory upload field, not optional), and twelve months of bank statements. Albanian immigration applies stricter financial scrutiny to Nigerian applicants, so submitting a domiciliary account statement alongside your naira statement strengthens the application. The visa fee is €60. The stay allowed is up to 90 days.
Processing Time
Between fifteen and thirty working days from the date your documents are accepted. Apply at least six weeks before your travel date.
Nigerian-Specific Tip
Standard Nigerian naira debit cards will not work to pay the €60 fee. The Central Bank of Nigeria’s international transaction restrictions mean most Verve and standard Mastercard or Visa cards will decline. You need a dollar card or a card denominated in a foreign currency to complete the payment. Sort this out before you start the application. Also, if you are flying to Albania from Nigeria via Europe, be aware that transiting through Schengen countries including Germany, France, or the Netherlands requires an Airport Transit Visa for Nigerian passport holders. Flying through Istanbul with Turkish Airlines avoids this issue entirely.
Why You Should Visit Albania
Albania gives Nigerian travelers a European-style trip without the usual European price tag. You can explore Tirana for colourful streets, cafés, and history, then head to the Albanian Riviera for blue water, beach towns, and coastal views that feel far more expensive than they are. It’s also not as crowded as places like Italy, France, or Greece.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I Need a Travel History to Visit Any of These Countries?
No. None of the eight destinations on this list require an existing travel history as a condition of your visa application. Some of them ask for thorough financial documentation to compensate for the absence of prior stamps, but a clean passport does not disqualify you from any of them. This is exactly why they made the list.
Which of These Destinations Is the Easiest Visa to Get as a Nigerian?
Malaysia and Hong Kong are the most straightforward. Both are self-service e-visas, fully online, no agent required. The Philippines follows closely. If you want the simplest possible first application, start with one of those three.
Can I Combine Multiple Destinations on One Trip?
Yes, and several of these destinations pair naturally. Singapore and Hong Kong work well together given their proximity. Malaysia and Thailand sit next to each other and share easy overland and air connections. Qatar works as a short standalone trip or a stopover on the way to somewhere else. Bali and Singapore are a strong pairing for a two-country first trip. Planning a multi-destination trip also means one long-haul flight earns you two or three stamps, which builds your travel history faster.
What Documents Do I Typically Need for These Visas?
Most applications across this list require the same core set: a valid passport with at least six months remaining validity, a recent passport photograph, a return flight itinerary, proof of accommodation, a bank statement covering the last three to six months, and an employment letter or proof of income. Some destinations add specific requirements. Albania requires twelve months of statements and mandatory travel insurance. Hong Kong requires detailed financial and employment documentation. Bali requires agent assistance and a minimum bank balance of $2,000. The Travel Documents Checklist for Nigerians covers the full standard list in detail.
Which of These Stamps Helps the Most With Future Visa Applications?
Singapore. A Singapore visa in your passport signals to future embassies that you have been through a rigorous assessment process and were approved. It carries genuine credibility weight, particularly when applying for Schengen, UK, or US visas later. Hong Kong follows for similar reasons. Malaysia and Thailand are useful for demonstrating Asian travel history, which helps when applying to other destinations in the region. Every stamp on this list improves your next application, but Singapore is the one that opens the most doors.
Go Explore The World
Your first trip outside Africa doesn’t have to be the UK, US, or Schengen. In fact, for many Nigerian travelers, starting with a destination that has a more realistic visa route is the smarter move.
The goal is not just to travel once. It’s to build a clean, credible travel history one trip at a time. Choose a country you can afford, document your application properly, travel as planned, and return within your allowed stay. That first stamp may look small, but it can make your next visa application much stronger.
So if your passport is still empty, don’t let that stop you. Start with the countries that are already accessible, then build from there.
