ARC Review of Cherringham – A Dinner to Die For: A Cosy Crime Series (Cherringham: Mystery Shorts Book 28) by Matthew Castello and Neil Richards

images (13)  When a new restaurant with a starred American chef opens in Cherringham, it seems the Spotted Pig has a worthy rival. But a series of disturbing incidents turns that rivalry into something dangerous – perhaps even fatal. Jack and Sarah get involved and soon discover dark secrets about the new chef Anna … Can they uncover what is really happening before both restaurants go belly-up?

About the Series
Set in the sleepy English village of Cherringham, the detective series brings together an unlikely sleuthing duo: English web designer Sarah and American ex-cop Jack. Thrilling and deadly – but with a spot of tea – it’s like Rosamunde Pilcher meets Inspector Barnaby. Each of the self-contained episodes is a quick read for the morning commute, while waiting for the doctor, or when curling up with a hot cuppa.

Pages: Print: 117 pages, E-Book – 96 pages

Book Review

Cherringham – A dinner to die for was sent to me by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, and I will start by telling you I read the 96 pages in less than a day, and I got to a point towards the end of the book I had to get up from my bed to sit on the floor because I felt the book needed some drama, as a result of the great plot.

Jack an ex detective and Sarah a web designer are great friends who came to live in a small village Cherringham, they are not just friends but mystery solvers, because together they solved a lot of mysteries.

Sam and Julie are couples who own a restaurant called spotted pig (queer name), they were doing well until Anna, Sam’s shriveled past came to live in Cherringham too, opening her own restaurant.

Then series of mysterious attacks and disastrous happenings started in Anna’s restaurant and because of the bad history Anna and Sam had, all accusing fingers were pointed at Sam.

The intriguing part of this book is getting your mind to follow up with the characters, especially Jack and Sarah, as they point out clues and merge them together to find out secrets and unveil mysteries behind them.

This book keeps you guessing to the last page, though 2 chapters to the end, I had an hunch of who and what was behind the mysteries, but I still couldn’t put a finger on what it was. It’s really is a cosy crime series.

I love this book and I would love to read the other series, I would have given it 5 stars, but I had to reach Chapter 3 and go back and forth between reading the book and about the book before I could understand the book. Regardless, it’s a must read. So I give it ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5 stars.

  1. […] Murder at the Inn is a cozy mystery novella by author Penelope Sotheby. It’s a clasic whodunit, with quiet twists and unsuspecting turns guaranteed to keep you guessing until the very last page.  Book Review There is a murder at the inn!!!    Naturally, I love detective and crime stories, so when I got this short novella of just 42 pages, I was so excited to read and I tell you it was worth reading.    Mrs Agatha Thompson was murdered in an inn owned by an old couple. This is to be expected because the title is Murder at the Inn, but the fact that the suspects of the murder are unlike some other books that will be easily visible to you makes the book enticing.    There is Daniel and Maureen, the old couple; there is susan, the help; there is larry, Mrs thompson’s acquaintance, there is Mr thompson, the husband and also mrs agatha’s sister, and then Inspector Jack, the detective who tries to match clues together and coalates facts to know for sure who had murdered mrs thompson.  Books like this makes me feel like a detective, especially if you read a lot of crime and detective book, then at a certain place you would have guessed who the murderer was, though I wasn’t so sure myself until it was finally mentioned.    The character I loved most was Inspector Jack, he is a unique kind of detective that keeps the murderer, the suspects, co-workers and the reader oblivious of what or who his clues are pointing at till the very last of the page.   It is the kind of book you read in few hours, and then hope that it could be longer than 42 pages, I stayed glued to the pages of the book till the end and at the end I wanted more.   I will rate this heart-thumping book 4/5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐ From the begining to the end, it captured my interest and I look forward to reading more of A cosy mystery series and A cosy Crime series.
